2026/27 cruise season gets under way as first big ships arrive

By Cruisey News (automated)

New Zealand's 2026/27 cruise season is formally beginning in early October, led by Crown Princess calling at Auckland on 3 October and Celebrity Edge at Tauranga on 13 October. The season is forecast at roughly 642 port calls carrying about 223,530 passengers and 96,911 crew, broadly in line with last year rather than growing further.

The upcoming season lands at about the same level as 2025/26, which industry figures read as a sign the multi-year slide in ship visits is flattening out rather than deepening. The New Zealand Cruise Association's chief executive, Jacqui Lloyd, pointed to a more encouraging outlook further ahead, with 2028/29 shaping up as a stronger year. Princess Cruises has flagged additional New Zealand port calls from the 2028/29 season, while Celebrity Cruises has rebuilt its presence in the market since the pandemic. For now, the sector's focus is on operational readiness for the summer ahead and on holding costs and settings steady enough to persuade lines to commit more capacity.
